Level C Senior: “Spot on 3” – learning materials and learning content
The system Spot on 3 is suitable for students aged 12 – 16. Learning materials include: a coursebook, a workbook, a writing task booklet, a coursebook test booklet and downloadable files with animated lessons and additional exercises. All the classes take place in friendly and relaxed atmosphere conducting by experienced leachers, as during lessons multimedia products are used.
Grammar and vocabulary are presented through exciting events and experiences of the main characters – Charlotte, Zack, Ravi, Jessie and friends. They take the student to interesting places around the world and introduce the most distinctive, related to these places, features. What is more – the child gets the opportunity to “take a walk” around London and to see its sights, to “visit” the unique London Zoo, to read about what people do in their free time, as well as interesting stories from various countries; it is even possible to meet “a ghost”; Charlotte, though, “goes” to China, while, thanks to Zack, the student feels the excitement to be an astronaut.
The study material is divided into 9 units with 4 or 5 lessons in each. After every second taught lesson, it is to be worked with a writing task booklet. Students learn how to write a formal and informal letter /or email/, a short story, a blog, an essay and an article /material taught in the last year of the high schools with extended language study/. At the end of every two units, the progress is determined by a test from the coursebook test booklet. The lessons reinforce the grammatical tenses that have already been learnt in the previous levels: present simple, present continuous, past simple, past continuous, future simple, future continuous, present perfect and present perfect continuous. By the end of the school year, students also learn: past perfect, past perfect continuous and future perfect tense, comparative and modal structures, passive voice, the conditional sentences of the three types, transformation of sentences from direct to indirect speech and vice versa, exclamatory structures, double conjunctions, gerund, reflexive pronouns, the infinitive, tag questions, adjectives and adverbs. Learners are able to talk on a variety of topics related to future life plans, healthy eating and lifestyle, animal care, personal and quality characteristics, trips to different places and their description, human relationships, inventions, even life in space and ghosts.
