Cambridge FCE /B2 First for Schools/ – study system and study content

The leader in EFL books Grivas Publications https://www.grivas.gr/ provides full preparation for the FCE /B2
First for Schools/ examination in three great textbooks:
– Reading and Use of English Skills;
– Speaking, Listening and Writing Skills;
– 6 Practice Tests.
The first book Reading & Use of English for the Cambridge English First (FCE) for Schools examination has been
designed to thoroughly prepare students for Paper 1 of the examination. The textbook includes:
 Comprehensive coverage of all the grammatical phenomena encountered at this level.
 Ample practice in the grammar presented in each unit.
 Alphabetical presentation of phrasal verbs, prepositional phrases, verbs/adjectives/nouns with
prepositions.
 Derivative tables at the back of the book, featuring a comprehensive list of words and their derivatives
in alphabetical order.
 Extensive practice in key word transformation, focusing on grammar / structure, vocabulary and
collocation or idiomatic expression.
 Example transformations, providing students with a valuable resource that will enable them to cope
with the demands of this task.
 Additional practice in phrasal verbs and word confusion.
 Multiple-choice and open cloze texts.

 A variety of reading texts, including newspaper and magazine articles, novel extracts, advertisements
and informational material such as guides and brochures.
 Skills exercises which will aid students in the reading sections of the examination.
Reading & Use of English for the Cambridge English First (FCE) for Schools will provide students with extensive
practice in the format of the examination, developing their grammatical and lexical skills to the level required
for success in the Cambridge English First (FCE) for Schools examination.
The second book Speaking, Listening & Writing Skills for the Cambridge English First (FCE) for Schools
examination has been designed to thoroughly prepare students for Papers 2, 3 and 4 of the examination.
The book familiarises students with the different task types and covers topics that frequently occur in the
examination. The textbook includes:
 Stimulating material which has been carefully selected to cover a wide variety of contemporary issues.
 Exercises and activities to show students ways of improving their performance in the areas of speaking,
listening and writing by helping them to develop specific skills for each of these sections of the exam.
 Exercises to expand and enrich students' vocabulary, providing them with a wealth of topic-related
lexical items.
 A variety of oral activities designed to equip students with the skills needed to express their thoughts
accurately and effectively.
 Pre-listening tasks which both encourage students to formulate ideas and prepare them for the material
they are to listen to.
 A wide variety of listening texts covering all the task and text types encountered in the examination.
 Writing guidelines for each task type in the examination, showing students how to organise and present
their ideas.

Speaking, Listening and Writing Skills for the Cambridge English First (FCE) for Schools  will provide students
with extensive practice in the format of the examination, developing and enhancing their speaking, listening
and writing skills to the level required for success in the Cambridge English First (FCE) for Schools examination.
The third book 6 Practice Tests is highly recommended for immediate technical preparation before taking an
exam. These mock tests are with the same format, volume and duration as in the real exam:
 Paper 1: Reading and Use of English – 8 parts /1 hour and 15 minutes/.
 Paper 2: Writing – 2 parts /1 hour and 20 minutes/.
 Paper 3: Listening – 4 parts /approximately 40 minutes/.
 Paper 4: Speaking – 4 parts /approximately 15 minutes/.

The main features of the textbook are:
 Clear, concise presentation of the most important grammatical & structural phenomena tested at this
level. Each grammar section is followed by transformations. This will help candidates consolidate the
knowledge of grammar and structure they have gained during previous years of study. As a result,
candidates will feel more confident in their use of the language, and more able to cope with the Reading
& Use of English section of the examination.
 Further practice in Key Word Transformation focused on grammar/structure, vocabulary and collocation
or idiomatic expression.
 Further practice in Word Formation.
 These six complete practice tests accurately reflect the content, level and format of the examination.
